But back in Taiwan, his parents are waiting for a wedding, a daughter-in-law, and the grandchild they have always assumed would come. So Wai-Tung does what so many sons have done before him: he tells a small lie. He marries Wei-Wei, a Taiwanese artist who needs a green card. Everyone wins. Everyone is safe.    And then his parents board a plane.    What was meant to be a quick performance becomes a banquet—lavish, traditional, impossible to refuse.
